Rare Book News of Note: April 2014
Here’s a few snippets from the world of book collecting:
- Nicholas Basbanes’ Library of Inscribed First Editions are for sale. Three association copies and over six hundred other modern firsts, all inscribed to Basbanes, are being offered in a lot by Lux Mentis Booksellers.
- A first edition printing of the Torah is going on the block at Christies on April 30, 2014. One of twenty-eight surviving copies, this newly found vellum copy of the Pentateuch was printed by Abraham ben Hayim of Pesaro for Joseph ben Abraham Caravita in 1482 with Aramaic paraphrase (Targum Onkelos) and commentary by Rashi (Solomon ben Isaac). It is estimated to sell for over one million dollars.
