Lolita by V. Nabokov

In an article today from the New York Times, the release date for Vladimir Nabokov‘s last work, “The Original of Laura,” has been announced as November 3. Nabokov’s son, Dmitri, finally decided to publish his father’s last novel after “decades” of consideration. The reason for the delay? Like Lolita, Nabokov wanted this manuscript to be destroyed.

Fortunately, for avid Nabokov fans like myself, this decision–albeit against Nabokov’s wishes–is an incredible opportunity to experience more truly unique wordplay from one of the 20th century’s greatest writers. Penguin Classics will simultaneously release “The Original of Laura” in the United States and the U.K.

A collection of previously unpublished poetry by Nabokov, as well as an unseen exchange of letters between Nabokov and his wife Vera, are slated for future publication from Penguin.
