Confessions of a negligent hop farmer
By allen | June 18, 2008
The last book I bought on Biblio.com was The Homebrewer’s Garden. This time of year I love nothing better than watching hops grow. I’m convinced that if I had the patience or the time I could actually see the vine moving during peak growth. A healthy plant can grow about a foot a day.
Having said that, I must confess to being a very bad hop farmer. Every year, my plants get off to a great start and then seem to malinger through July and barely survive the summer.
I’ve also got to confess that I have not yet put the slightest effort into actually learning how to grow hops. I ordered this book yesterday and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival so that I can start setting things right with the hop gods!
